Through Faith

For those of you who return regularly, you know that I promised to share some fun pics from our trip to Maine earlier this month. We visited with our daughter's godparents whom have been blessed with a beautiful house.

This isn't the greatest picture, but it's one of my favorites.

I stood in the kitchen watching Nate & Mary play in the yard with their puppy. I stood there remembering the four of us a few years earlier -- dreaming & sharing our faith over dinner in a tiny apartment. They wanted a home of their own and believed God would provide one soon. Not only did he give them a home, but he expanded their ministry, brought them through difficulties and gave them more reasons to laugh than to cry.

It might seem silly, but this picture reminds me that when we pray in faith, we "look through the glass darkly"  (1Corinthians 13:12). Meaning, we have moments where we know without a doubt that we are destined for a certain place or thing. But in prayer, the details aren't always clear. However, our faith provides a window where can see ourselves "there"...thriving and happy...

Looking through the screen, I remembered our original prayers - and to me they felt just like this moment:

On the other side, not too far away there was something more. And I'm glad that our friends didn't give up hope. They let their faith encourage their hearts all the way to where God wanted them. In their own home. Pursuing their ministries even more than before with hands completely untied.

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."  Hebrews 11:1

My heart is glad today. Because if Nate & Mary's faith & obedience can bring them to just one of their great promises, mine can do the very same thing here.
